Outsourced Reflection - #9
Outsouced is a very good film for showing the differences in cultures.
1. Using the “W” Curve, write a reflection about Todd’s visit to India.
2. The American and Indian Cultural Dimensions are very different.
3. Give examples from the movie of Hofstede’s Power Distance (High v Low) and Individualism v Collectivism
4. Write at least 150 – 200 hundred words.
5. Give examples of each of the mainpoints of the W-curve. Example: when Todd arrives in India..
cTodd experienced culture shock when he went to a new and different country . At first he was alright but as soon as he reached India he was culture shocked. First when his boss told him that he is leaving to india he was alright with it ,but when he saw India he was so culture shocked because he saw cows on the street and he saw people urinating on the street in front of people. Also, when he saw the street he felt so uncomfortable. Also, he felt uncomfortable when he saw the place they gonna work in and when he saw a cow in the place . In addition , he was shocked when he saw the indian employees different accent and when he they call thing in different name for example; when he knew that they call and eraser a rubber , which means in American a condom. After the holy festival he learned a bit about India and he started adapting the culture and he started learning a bit about India. Then after making his employees comfortable in there office , befriended them ,started dating with Asha ,and understanding them the indian culture the MPI dropped to lower than six . More over, after adjusting to the place and dropping the MPI to lower than six his boss came to him and told him that he's gonna move him to china and he feld so bad after all the hard work . Then he didn't take the job and gave it to his friend Puuro . Then even though after moving to his country he felt again culture shock and he still got used to Indian culture. For example, he got used to wash himself by water in the bathroom rather than using toilet paper , putting a lot of sugar in the tea ,calling his mom ,and drinking by his right hand.

Reflection
Create a reflection about the movie Outsourced using the PowerPoint I give you. Show that you really understand the above cultural concepts.
1. As soon as Todd arrives, he experiences the discomfort of being disoriented in a
strange new place. What happens at the airport? the guy who's welcoming him wrote his name wrong
2. When a friendly traveler helps him get on the train, what does he tell him to do?
to jump in train
3. When he gets on the train, he cannot find an empty seat. How is this problem
solved for him? How might this be a cultural solution? he sat on something, this would solve traffic problems
4. As any exchange student, he has a lot of experiences trying new food. His first
encounter is with an iced drink. What happens? they gave him ice-cream
5. First encounters with a culture can be shocking – Todd sees crowded streets with
cows, noise, and a man urinating in the street. But how does his host describe the
city? he described it as clean
6. Even though the host Puro speaks English, Todd uses American slang a lot
without thinking. So as not to insult Puro, what does he say the meaning of
Schmuck is? nice guy
7. Todd wants to check in to a hotel. But Puro insists he comes to a boarding house.
What is the reason he gives Todd? he told him that he would feel lonely in the hotel, on the other hand he will feel in hime if he went to Aunti ji house because she will treat him as of she is his mom
8. As soon as they meet, Aunti Ji starts asking very intimate questions that
Americans who have just met would never ask. What kind of things does she ask?
she asked him what is his good name, what is your salary, are you married, why did you break up
9. During his first conversation with Aunti Ji he makes two big mistakes. What are
they? not to eat with the left hand , and not to put his hand back in the food if it has been in his mouth
10. The Golden Rule says do unto others as you would have them do unto you. That
means his Indian hosts and friends are trying to make him comfortable the way
they would be comfortable. How does this apply when the servant is preparing
tea for Todd? by putting a lot of sugar in tea for him
11. How does Todd figure out why one does not eat food with the left hand?
from the guy showing him from behind the scene that it is used for washing
13.why do they disagree on how native speak english? they think they pronounce english better

Power difference between UAE and Philippines
In my part i talked about supervisory personnel in the UAE and in Philippines and that in the Philippines there is no supervisory personnel and that in the UAE there is supervisory personnel. Moreover, I also mentioned centralization and how it works in both countries, in Philippines and that the national government in highly centralized with few powers devolving to provincial and municipal governments. On the other hand, in the UAE the centralization is limited to the head of the organization only.
- Is there supervisory personnel?
- Is centralization is popular ?

SLAVES WORK FOR ME
We'd love to tell you which brands to buy from to reduce your Slavery Footprint. The truth is, we can’t yet. This issue is not a priority for business. That’s why Made In A Free World is building a revolutionary tool for companies to directly address slavery in their supply chains, along with a movement to partner with companies who are actively building a Free World. We need your help to build this movement.
